MEET LYNDSEY · FOUNDER & PERSONAL TRAINER
I know what it feels like to think fitness isn’t for you.
I haven’t always been fit, confident or comfortable walking into a gym. In fact, there was a time when I was terrified of being the biggest person in the room, the unfittest person there, or simply looking like I didn’t know what I was doing.
That’s a huge part of why I created In Her Prime Fitness. I want women to feel like they have somewhere to start, without judgement, pressure or needing to “get fit” before they ask for help.
My Story
I really have been where you are.
At my heaviest, I was around 16 stone at 5'2". I was self-conscious, uncomfortable in my own skin and absolutely did not feel like somebody who belonged in a gym.
I worried about being the biggest person there. I worried about being the least fit. I worried I’d do something wrong and look stupid.
And the funny thing I know now? Nobody in the gym was thinking about me anywhere near as much as I thought they were. They were too busy thinking about themselves.
But knowing that now doesn’t mean the fear I felt then wasn’t real.
The Turning Point
Then life gave me a reason to reassess things.
When my son went away to university, I suddenly realised just how much of my life had revolved around everybody else.
I had more time on my hands, and not much that felt like it was just for me.
Around the same time, being diagnosed with a non-alcohol-related fatty liver gave me another reason to take my health seriously.
So I started making changes.
Not overnight. Not with some extreme transformation plan. I changed how I ate, started exercising more and found classes that I actually enjoyed.
Most of the weight came off over around two years, but I don’t really think my transformation took two years.
I think it’s still happening.
“I didn’t finish a diet. I built a lifestyle I want to keep for the rest of my life.”
What Fitness Gave Me
Yes, my body changed. But the biggest change was how I felt in myself.
I got fitter. I got stronger. I found confidence I hadn’t had before. I started trying things I once would have avoided because I was scared of being the worst person in the room.
Now I’ll happily do almost anything, strength training, kettlebells, spin, step, aqua, running, cycling, dance, walking, bounce classes… give me something active and I’ll probably have a go.
Eventually I qualified as a Personal Trainer and fitness instructor.
Going from being frightened of walking into a gym to teaching other women inside one still isn’t lost on me.
AND I’M STILL FIGURING THINGS OUT TOO…
Now I’m going through menopause myself, I understand first-hand that getting fit once doesn’t mean your body or your life suddenly stop changing.
Broken sleep and night sweats can leave me waking up exhausted no matter how early I went to bed. I can be more forgetful and ditsy, and sometimes even concentrating properly during training takes more mental effort than it used to.
So when a woman tells me her energy is different, her body feels different or she just doesn’t feel like herself, I’m not looking at her thinking, “just try harder.”
I understand.
And I also know those changes don’t mean you have to stop moving forward.
Why In Her Prime Fitness Exists
Your prime doesn’t have an expiry date.
We hear so much about women being “in their prime” when they’re young.
I don’t buy that.
Your prime might be the point where you finally start putting some time back into yourself.
It might be when you walk into the gym despite being terrified.
It might be when you realise getting stronger matters more to you than getting smaller.
Or it might simply be when you start feeling comfortable in your own skin again.
Your prime isn’t behind you. It’s something you build.
The trainer I wish I’d had when I started.
NO JUDGEMENT
You never need to be embarrassed about where you’re starting. I remember exactly what that feels like.
PLENTY OF ENCOURAGEMENT
I’ll be your biggest cheerleader, especially on the days when you’re not feeling particularly confident yourself.
REALISTIC ACCOUNTABILITY
I’m supportive, but I’m not going to tell you what you want to hear every single time. Sometimes we all need a little push.
TRAINING THAT ACTUALLY FITS YOUR LIFE
Home, gym, equipment, no equipment, beginner or experienced, we work with what suits you rather than forcing you into one way of training.
Expect plenty of enthusiasm, a few laughs and probably more chatting than originally planned.
Qualifications
Lived experience, backed by proper training.
Knowing what it feels like to start gives me empathy. My qualifications give me the knowledge to coach you properly.
